Gov. Matt Blunt to Campus
for Historic Bill Signing

LSS at Lenoir Woods welcomed Governor Matt Blunt to campus July 5 for the signing of Missouri House Bill 444. Joined by state representative Steve Hobbs, Gov. Blunt greeted the residents of the Columbia, Missouri, senior living community during a special luncheon held in honor of the visiting dignitaries.

The Lenoir Woods Residents’ Association joined Gov. Blunt onstage for the symbolic signing of the bill, which promises to phase out Missouri’s tax on social security benefits. Reporters and photojournalists from throughout central Missouri looked on as each member of the association received a copy of the new law.

 
 

While the bill remains controversial in some circles, many Lenoir Woods residents are looking forward to the benefits the new legislation promises. “House Bill 444 was championed as a bill that made common sense because Missouri seniors had already paid for Social Security and were being taxed twice,” Lenoir Woods Residents’ Association President Mark Brumbach told reporters. “With many of us on fixed incomes, this tax relief signed today is most welcome and appreciated.”
