Loretta Davis knows when it’s time to take a break.
An OASIS volunteer for three years, Davis oversees the "Excerstart" program at LSS at Dunn Road Manor. Twice a week, she leads her class of dedicated students in low-impact senior aerobics.

Lutheran Senior Services Introduces LSS Hospice Care
On October 10, 2007, Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) received licensure by the state of Missouri to begin operations of a hospice agency in the St. Louis metro area. This extension of LSS' ministries offers a new faith-driven resource for people who need end of

In Residence--Glenda Crites: 20 Years of Gold
St. Louis newsman Telly Hughes refers to her as “The Tiger Woods of the Senior Olympics,” and the comparison couldn’t be more appropriate. Like the PGA superstar, nationally acclaimed distance swimmer Glenda Crites has amassed an astonishing number of medals, trophies, plaques and certificates during her 20 years of competition.

LSS at Meramec Bluffs: New Expansion Sets the Pace for Retirement in West County
Terry Etling had less than six months to get settled into her new post as the head of LSS at Meramec Bluffs before plans began in earnest on the campus’s newest expansion. The new wing, which breaks ground in late summer, will house 46 new apartments arranged in eight new floor plans.

2007 Lutheran Golf Tournament: NFL Hall of Famer Helps Cap Off a Night of Heroes
For Gary Mantei, Don Hannah and his son Mark, the Lutheran Golf Tournament was a night of heroes. While the daylight hours of July 23 saw 215 participants tee off at Whitmoor Country Club, it was during that evening’s oral auction that Mantei and the Hannahs were introduced to recent NFL Hall of Fame inductee Roger Wehrli.

In Residence: Marie Goerner - Bridging the Gap
Over the years, Marie Goerner has learned to lay bricks, build houses, drive semis and incapacitate criminals…all over the shoulders of her adult literacy students. “We work on things that will help them move up in their jobs and in society,” she said, speaking from her patio home on the LSS at Laclede Groves campus.

LSS at Lenoir Woods Welcomes Gov. Matt Blunt to Campus for Historic Bill Signing
LSS at Lenoir Woods welcomed Governor Matt Blunt to campus July 5 for the signing of Missouri House Bill 444. Joined by state representative Steve Hobbs, Gov. Blunt greeted the residents of the Columbia, Missouri, senior living community during a special luncheon held in honor of the visiting dignitaries.

Retiring LSS President Carl Rausch Honored for 22 Years of Service
During Concordia Seminary’s 168th Commencement Exercises May 18, Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) President Carl Rausch received the Christus Vivit Award, the highest honor the institution bestows upon a layperson. Presented for “a lifetime of dedicated and distinguished service,” the Christus Vivit serves as a fitting capstone for Rausch’s career with Lutheran Senior Services.

LSS In-Home Services Celebrates 10 Years of Helping Older Adults Live Independently
In-Home Services Administrator Marcia Eckrich has watched demand for her programs skyrocket over the past decade. “I really believe this is the future of senior health care,” said Eckrich. “We’ve seen an amazing amount of growth since we opened our home health and private duty agencies in 1997. We’ve tripled our referrals, and demand is on the rise as we celebrate our tenth year."

Ministry in Action: St. Peter's Lutheran - Prairietown
Sixty years ago, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown, Illinois, was the site of Edmond and Anamelia Eden’s wedding. Today, the Edens make their home at LSS at Meridian Village, but St. Peter’s is still taking an active role in the lives of two of its older parishioners.
