What Physical Therapy Can Do
Under Medicare Guidelines
        • Improve walking abilities including endurance and quality. 
        • Decrease the need for assistance.
        • Increase balance while sitting, standing or moving.
        • Increase ability to move from sitting to standing or other positions.
        • Assess frequent falls and teach techniques/treat problems
          to prevent falls.
        • Assess the need for a cane, walker, crutches or alternate device.
        • Teach safety awareness regarding the surrounding environment.
        • Correct/decrease tightness in body joints.
        • Increase the range of available movement in the arms, legs or trunk.
        • Increase healing of complicated bedsores, severe burns or wounds.
        • Improve the positioning, comfort and function of a wheelchair or
          bed-bound person.
        • Decrease pain. 
        • Decrease swelling.
        • Increase muscle strength. 
        • Decrease frailty.
        • Teach patients to use artificial limbs and other devices.
        • Teach back care and prevention of back pain/injury.
        • Teach family caregivers safe lifting techniques, car transfers and other.
